In November 1921, Prince of Wales Edward VIII arrives in Bombay, where the Indian subcontinent is suffering under British rule. Perin Mistri, learning of the death of the eighteen-year-old student Freni Cuttingmaster, decides to investigate the matter. But at that time, riots break out in the city: armed agents of the British services march through the streets, rioters attack the British, and shop owners destroy their own goods out of fear of racial hatred. Perin faces danger, yet he still decides to help the family of the girl who died.
