Tom Sawyer is an orphan, but, apparently, it doesn’t weigh on him at all. He knows how to turn any situation to his own advantage, and, more importantly, to get the most real boys’ “treasures”—like glass marbles or even a dead rat. This is a wonderful book about childhood, games, pranks, and those treasures that are truly valuable in a child’s world. The book will be especially close to children: Tom Sawyer is a bright example of a lively mind, resourcefulness, and agility combined in him with kindness and honesty. And for adults, his adventures will bring back memories of their own childhood years and help them better understand their children. It’s an excellent comedy about upbringing and an eternal dilemma—should you punish strictly or, after all, forgive?
