Andrey Sergeevich Nekrasov (1907–1987) — Soviet prose writer and essayist, traveler, sailor. The writer’s fame came from his fascinating humorous novella “The Adventures of Captain Vrungel.” Its main hero, who is also the narrator, is Christofor Bonifatyvich Vrungel, a “true old sea wolf” teaching navigation at a maritime school.
One day he decides to shake up his old days and sets off on a round-the-world voyage on a forty-foot sailing yacht with the promising name “Pobeda” (Victory). On his expedition he takes with him only a senior mate—Lom—who becomes a two-meter-tall sailor: not very smart, but diligent and capable. The adventures begin even before they leave for sea: barely breaking away from the pier, “Pobeda” turns into “Beda” (Trouble)… Are you intrigued? Then listen!
