Brigadier Gerard—hero of the Napoleonic Wars, unmatched storyteller, joker and braggart—is one of Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous characters.
Doyle released two collections about Brigadier Gerard’s adventures: “The Doings of Brigadier Gerard” and “The Adventures of Brigadier Gerard,” as well as the story “The Marriage of Brigadier Gerard,” which the author did not include in the collections. The collections depict events from the Napoleonic Wars period; the narration is styled as memoirs and is told in the voice of a fictional cavalry officer, Gerard.
