The Adventure of the Illustrious Client

The story “The Adventure of the Noble Client” is part of the “The Sherlock Holmes Archive” cycle: the last collection of twelve stories about Sherlock Holmes, published in 1927.

We learn the name of the noble client at the very end of the story—at first, it is kept secret. A famous detective faces an unusual task: he is asked to separate two lovers—the young Violet and the deranged sadist, the Austrian baron Gruner, infamous for his cruelty and, allegedly, involvement in several murders. Can Holmes and Watson handle such an unusual assignment, and manage to solve the problem before anyone else is harmed?
