On the planet Lagash night comes once every 2049 years. In that single night, civilization dies because everyone goes mad. But what is the reason for the universal madness? Astronomers of Lagash, observing six stars in their system, don’t know what the rest of the universe is like.

The story not only confirms a well-known truth—“knowledge is power”—but also adds a very significant warning: ignorance is death.

In 1988, director Paul Myer(s)berg made a feature film titled “Twilight” based on the story. In 1990, Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg adapted the story into a novel of the same name.
