Yuri Miloslavsky is a prose writer, poet, literature historian, and religious studies scholar. Born in Kharkiv—where he began his career as a writer. Since 1973, he has lived in exile. “The ‘Invited’ One” is a novel about the nature of love—its very substance—and about death and rebirth. The reader is invited to follow the narrator, Nikolai Usov, into the story of a young, unhappy love: as it continues to affect him throughout his entire life, both bodily and emotionally, it essentially replaces his biography, his very identity. An outlying southern city of Russia (where his youth is), then New York—a different life… The hero cannot accept the “non-meeting” and begins to search for ways to overcome the substance of time so that the “meeting-love” will finally happen…
Fragments of the first part of the novel were published in the literary almanac “Rubezh” (Vladivostok).
