Anya agreed to cover for a colleague, and now she stood before the client in a plush rabbit suit.
“Bring out the cake when the birthday boy’s dad arrives,” the client instructed.
“Sooner would be nice,” Anya sighed.
It was terribly hot inside the huge costume.
She swept her gaze over the restaurant hall and looked at the birthday boy.
“Why throw a party like this for a six-month-old? He’s exhausted, poor thing.”
Anya was distracted, imagining how today she would show her beloved the test with two lines. The thought that she and Damir would become parents instantly lifted her mood.
“Ah, here comes the dad!” the client beamed.
Stepping aside, Anya took off her gloves, lit the number “6” on the cake, and, holding a tray, turned toward the guests.
“Happy birthday, Kirill! Happy bir…”
Suddenly she stopped and fixed her eyes on her Damir, and the tray with the cake slipped from her hands.
