Orthodox Fasts and Feasts in the Works of the Holy Fathers. The Nativity of Christ

The “Grad Petrov” studio begins releasing a collection of audio CDs from the series “Orthodox Posts and Holidays in the Works of Holy Fathers, Theologians, Poets, and Philosophers.” The series will consist of seven audio CDs dedicated to the main events of the church yearly cycle—twelve major feasts, the Great Lent, and Holy Week (Passion Week).

The materials for this series came from broadcasts of the “Useful Readings for the Soul” segment, which for already twelve years has aired daily on the “Grad Petrov” radio station and has earned the interest and love of the widest audience. Fragments from the works of the holy fathers, hymns, sermons, moral teachings, and reflections on the meaning and significance of Christian holidays by Orthodox theologians and preachers of past centuries and our time—as well as artistic works from the golden fund of Russian classical literature, inspired by great events in the life of the Church—are performed by Petersburg actors and radio hosts of “Grad Petrov.”

The first CD in the new series is dedicated to the upcoming celebration of the Nativity of Christ and includes sermons, hymns, and moral teachings by saints and hierarchs: St. Gregory the Wonderworker, St. John Chrysostom, St. Leo the Great, St. Ambrose of Milan, St. Gregory the Great (Dvoeslov), Venerable Ephrem the Syrian, as well as saints Theophan the Recluse and Philaret (Drozdov), and the righteous John of Kronstadt.
