Outstanding Russian playwright Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky (1823–1886) tells us the story of an apple orchard—cheerful, funny, wise, and, without question, proof that happiness exists, and that in our souls there is the ability to be happy. And it’s no accident that a kind nanny who helps lovers goes by a “speaking” name—Filitsata—which in translation from Latin means “happiness.” In 2004, this performance won the special jurors’ award “Golden Mask” for the best acting ensemble, and was also recognized as the winner of the “Nail of the Season” award. In the same year, all participants received the State Prize of the Russian Federation.
