The collection of short stories by leading science-fiction writers “The Turn of the River’s History” offers a look at alternative versions of our country’s history—those that, for some reason, never happened. There is Russia that never knew the Horde’s yoke. Russia that discovered America. Russia in which the Decembrists won. Russia in which the Soviet Union still prevailed in the struggle for peace throughout the world. Russia in which the USSR didn’t even arise at all, and the Empire continued to exist happily.
