Description
Dunk of Flea Bottom, a former squire of a border knight, never imagined that one day he would hold the title of Lord Commander of the Royal Guard—and that his own squire Egg, the fourth son of the fourth son, would become Aegon V the Unlikely, ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

1. The Hedge Knight (Border Knight)
The story takes place ninety years before the events of “A Song of Fire and Ice.” The main hero is Dunk the squire, who takes on a knight’s name for himself, enters a tournament, and becomes the cause of tragic events that lead to changes in succession within the Targaryen dynasty.
2. The Mysterious Knight
After leaving King’s Landing, Dunk swore allegiance to the old Lord Yustace Osgrey. One day, during a drought, Osgrey’s neighbor Lady Roanne—known by the nickname the Hot Widow—blocked the only stream that watered the surrounding lands. Unable to defend his water by force, Ser Yustace sends Dunk as an envoy to Roanne, offering a ransom for her to remove the dam.
3. The Accidental Knight
In honor of Lord Butterwell’s wedding to the maiden Frey, a tournament is arranged, in which Dunk plans to participate. The main prize is a dragon egg, which Aegon the Unworthy gave to Butterwell after granting his three daughters three bastards. This egg is one of five that were never hatched by the last of the dragons in the days of Aegon the Unfortunate. Each of the five eggs went to Aegon’s children.
