Leonid Andreev (1871–1919) — a popular Russian writer of the early 20th century—in his works raises complex eternal questions about the meaning of life, the relationship between good and evil, truth and delusion, the conscious and the unconscious in a person. Problems of existence and morality were illuminated by the writer sharply and ambiguously. Andreev’s works immediately became a subject of discussion—literary and public events—not only in Russian, but also in world literature.
