In his acclaimed book, the outstanding scientist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi presents a completely new approach to the topic of happiness. For him, happiness is akin to inspiration; and the state in which a person is completely absorbed in an interesting activity where their potential is realized to the maximum, Csikszentmihalyi calls “flow.” The author analyzes this fruitful state using examples from representatives of the widest range of professions and finds that the emotional uplift experienced by artists, actors, and musicians is available in any kind of work. Moreover, it must be pursued—not only in purposeful activity, but also in relationships, in friendship, in love. The book answers the question of how to learn this.
