Description
Alejo Carpentier, the well-known Cuban writer, was born in Havana in 1904. His father was a French architect, and his mother had Russian blood and was related to the poet Konstantin Balmont. Carpentier studied the theory and history of music, so music plays a major role in his works.

In the novel “The Lost Steps,” the main character goes on a journey into the selva, which becomes for him a search for himself and a return to his roots. He also rethinks his relationship with three women and assesses his own values.

This novel is a cathartic drama, in which the hero strives to get rid of all burdens that distort his life. The question is whether he can reach the spiritual freedom he desires so much.

“The Lost Steps” makes us reflect not only on the past, but also on the present and the future.
