Description
The novel “The Consequences” is a poignant story of love, betrayal, and revenge set against the backdrop of a destroyed post-war world. In 1946, ruined post-war Hamburg lies in ruins. British officer Lewis Morgan is appointed temporary governor of Hamburg and its surrounding areas. For several years he hasn’t seen his wife Rachel and his son, but the war is over, and the family must be reunited. The governor is housed in one of the few houses that survived in Hamburg—a luxurious and comfortable manor on the banks of the Elbe. But the house has its current owners too— a German architect with his daughter. How will recent mortal enemies, winners and the defeated, get along under one roof? The novel “The Consequences” does what good novels are supposed to do: it raises difficult questions, inviting the reader to answer them themselves. Not long ago, this novel was adapted into a film that saw international release. The film was produced by Ridley Scott, and the lead roles were played by Keira Knightley, Alexander Skarsgård, and Jason Clarke.
