Description
Grandma chooses herself. Return home and love no matter what. After the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident, Baba Dunya returns to her village. While the whole world is afraid of forest fruits contaminated with radiation, she and like-minded people build a new life. On unowned land where birds sing louder than anywhere else.

Meanwhile, the terminally ill Petrov swings in a hammock and reads love poems, and the dairymaid Marya has an affair with the hundred-year-old Sidorov. But Baba Dunya writes letters to Germany to her daughter.

Then unfamiliar people appear in the village—and the community is once again threatened with disappearing. Alina Bronksy is piercingly, poetically, ironically, and tenderly bringing back a world that was lost. She tells the story of a village that shouldn’t exist anymore and of an extraordinary woman who, even at an advanced age, finds her own paradise.
