Federico Axat is a representative of the young generation of Latin American literature. In 2010 he released his first novel; three years later, the next book came out, and in 2016—his most successful and famous one—“The Last Chance.”
The main character of this psychedelic detective novel is the successful businessman Ted McCay. He has an ideal family and a well-paid job. Yet the novel begins with the hero putting a gun to his temple. It turns out that Ted has been diagnosed with brain cancer. But then an unexpected stranger knocks on the door, and everything starts to unfold according to an unplanned scenario. Little by little, Ted realizes how strange things are. Events slip out of control—where does sleep end and reality begin? … Grasping at the shards of a collapsing reality, Ted tries to figure out what is really happening and what is happening in his head.
“The Last Chance” has been translated into 30 languages, and Hollywood has already bought the rights to film it.
