1945. In the Carpathians, right at the borders with Czechoslovakia, the last battles are underway. No one here expects major military operations anymore. Ahead lies a peaceful life. A German grouping, having broken out of encirclement, is swiftly heading to the city of Maritsa, where Slovak partisans have just entered. A small artillery battery of Captain Novikov receives an order—at any cost—to delay the German tanks.
