Young writer Manley Nichols, along with her husband and small daughter, spends the summer on the Atlantic coast in the old Remembrance House, whose history hides many secrets. After suffering a psychological shock from the loss of her three-year-old son, Manley still suffers from nightmares and is therefore afraid to tell her husband about strange events that occur in the house while he is away. At night, someone invisible tucks little Hanna in with a blanket and rocks her in her cradle, while Manley hears a child’s crying and the clatter of a train—just like during that accident when her son died. Manley’s strange behavior leads Adam to think that his wife is gradually going insane. And Manley herself starts to doubt her own sanity.
