1981. BUENOS AIRES, Argentina is under the power of a military dictatorship. Police inspector Joaquín Alzada faces daily the realities of life under a repressive regime and the many frightened and desperate people. The hardest cases are about missing persons — with each day there are more of them. Alzada tries to stay away from politics, but when his revolutionary-minded brother, professor Jorge Rodolfo, disappears without a trace, the inspector won’t stop at anything in his determination to save him.
TWENTY YEARS LATER The country is gripped by yet another destructive crisis. In Buenos Aires, street unrest flares up again and again. Alzada is finishing his last months before retirement, still trying to “not stick his neck out,” remembering that it was this line of behavior that saved many lives. One day, a case of the disappearance of a young woman from a privileged capital family lands in his hands. His investigation will be a painful reminder of his involvement in the events of the country’s darkest period — and his last chance to atone.
