Hunted Down

Probably there isn’t a single person who isn’t familiar with the works of Charles Dickens—one of the most famous English-language novelists, a master of social criticism, and the creator of vivid comic characters and traits. And very few know him as the author of detective stories. We want to correct this misunderstanding and present to your attention an audio version of the writer’s detective tale “Caught Red-Handed.”

Mr. Samson is the manager of one of the insurance firms. He has enormous life experience and, by taking just a glance at a person, can tell—no worse than any physiognomist—about all the secret thoughts and mysteries of the person standing before him. One day, a visitor appeared at the doorstep of his office: one Julius Slinkton, who immediately aroused Mr. Samson’s sharp dislike. As it turned out later, that antipathy was absolutely justified, since this gentleman was involved in an extremely unpleasant story—an investigation into which Mr. Samson himself was forced to join.
