“Buried with the Pharaohs” is a thrilling anthology that combines the mysterious allure of Ancient Egypt with the esoteric depths of horror and fantasy literature. An unlucky tourist, during his vacation in Egypt, becomes the victim of scammers who kidnap him and leave him tied up inside one of the burial shafts of a pyramid. Trying to find a way out of the underground labyrinth, the unfortunate man encounters terrifying creatures, finds himself in a gigantic ceremonial cave, and meets a real deity—so similar to the Sphinx that it’s like two drops of water.
The story was written in 1924 for (possibly co-written with) Harry Houdini (Erich Weiss, 1874–1926), the famous American escapologist-illusionist. In 1913, he demonstrated that it’s possible to escape from a cell in the Butyrskaya prison.
