As a future father, Boyd desperately needs work. But the thought that at the Hobart mine he’ll have to go down underground, into the dark labyrinth of tunnels where ore is extracted, causes a growing unease. Maybe it’s because his father died in the mines… or maybe it’s something else—something far worse.
While miners are cutting a new level on the Eighth, the mine’s lowest tier, they discover a gigantic shaft. Boyd, along with several volunteers, volunteers to study it. At a depth of 400 feet they find a passage leading into a huge prehistoric cave.
A petrified world.
A prehistoric cemetery.
Because of a collapse, they find themselves trapped there—in the dark, among the damp shadows of the petrified world. But soon they understand that they are not alone.
Something has awakened.
Some ancient, terrifying, and intelligent thing.
And it is alone.
