Description
I came to in August of 41. The front had moved east, and the army had retreated. I, a Lieutenant of the Red Army, was left encircled. Gathering a small detachment of Red Army men, we gnawed at the earth, breaking through the ring of encirclement. Then we took part in a battle alongside the defenders of the Belarusian city of Gomel.

And I deliberately found myself in an occupied city. On the streets, German patrols; everywhere—informers and roundups; and for contact with the partisans, there was a gallows. The Nazis kill people, hauling them to execution pits outside the city, herding them into a concentration camp.

And now my front is here.

The Germans decided that Gomel had submitted, but they’re wrong. First the patrol will vanish, then a warehouse will burn… And afterward, for the first time, they will speak a new name—which will become a bad omen for the occupiers. The Ghost of Gomel. And let fire burn beneath the feet of those foul fascists.

[Based on the memoirs of the defenders of Gomel and eyewitnesses, interrogations of the Germans, and orders of the Gomel underground. The prototype of the main character is the heroic underground fighter Ivan Shilov]. Eternal glory to the heroes!
