A testimony story by the Christian poet and writer Nikolay Vodnevsky, “Under the Protection of the Most High,” like all his literary work, is marked by truthfulness, tenderness, imagery, and a refined sense of artistic taste. In this tale, Vodnevsky describes his barefoot, hungry childhood, overshadowed by orphanhood; his youth scorched by war. And through all these misfortunes, grief, and trials he passed under the protection of the Most High, whom he loved, trusted, and remained faithful to. He grew up in the depths of Russia, where in atheistic years faith in Christ was kept in the depths of the heart. His mother taught him: “Son, pray to God.” He followed that advice throughout his life. Before his death, she told her son, “I prayed you out for you from God.” And he felt it in the bleakest moments of life.
