Escape to Tuscany

This wonderful and thrilling story is as beautiful as Italy itself. Two women with similar fates are separated by decades, yet bound by a shared experience of loss and the search for themselves—overcoming the past and an unshakable faith in the future.

A small town lost among the hills of Tuscany, 1944. Fourteen-year-old Stella is the youngest member of the local Resistance. But this is a secret even for her parents. Together with her older brother Achille, the girl risks her life every day, passing messages, food, and weapons to the partisan squads hiding in the hills. And then, when peace comes in 1945, Stella suddenly disappears.

Seventy years later in Tuscany, Tory McNair, an aspiring writer escaping a failed marriage and Scottish melancholy, arrives. She has a long-standing connection to Florence, where she often visited as a child with her grandmother. But for now she doesn’t know that this escape to Tuscany will be not only liberation from a dull life, but also the beginning of something entirely new. Still, first she must unravel the long-ago wartime history, whose main character is the young courier Stella.
