“Letters of the Athonite to his friends about the Holy Mountain of Athos” is rightfully considered one of the most remarkable books about Athos. Its author is the Russian monk-Athonite, Hieromonk Sergii (Vesnin), in the schema of Seraphim, who lived and wrote in the 19th century. The book was first published in 1849, and since then it has been reissued many times, consistently drawing attention and eliciting a wide response. On the pages of the book, the author describes in detail everyday life on Athos, provides traditions and stories connected with miracles, and also recounts apparitions of icons and saints.
