In the small town of Willow Brook, known for its annual culinary festival, the local bakery “Sweet Dreams” is preparing for a contest for the best baked goods. But the celebration is marred by a terrible incident—someone tried to kill the food critic Glenn Rafferty, an avid hater of all kinds of pastries, especially the blackberry tartlets expertly made by the bakery owner. Kind-hearted and a bit clumsy Mary finds herself at the center of the investigation—because the villain shoved a blackberry tartlet into the mouth of the critic who had lost consciousness! And now Mary has to solve the attempted murder to clear her name and save her beloved shop. With the help of her friends, including the irritating but loyal house cat named Muffin and her neighbor, a passionate detective fan, Mary begins to untangle a web of intrigue, finding not just recipes but possible suspects on every page of the cookbooks.
