This audiobook tells the story of the severe trials endured by the outstanding Polish pianist and composer Władysław Szpilman during World War II in the Warsaw Ghetto.
He didn’t just try to survive; to the best of his abilities, he also took part in the resistance to the enemy that came to his homeland. However, later it was the help of a German officer that allowed him to live.
Extracts from the diaries of that same officer, Wilm Hosenfeld, are also included in the edition and serve as an important supplement to what Szpilman writes.
The book served as the basis for the famous film directed by Roman Polanski.
