The First Step

The 22nd century. The first star expedition continues for forty-eight years, but several generations must pass before the Ship reaches its goal and returns.

The first generation born on Earth has long gone. The second is leaving. Polina is its last representative. Studying the Ship’s history, she comes across a whole series of inconsistencies and begins an investigation.

Boris Fedorovich Lapin’s novella was first published in 1973 under the title "First Star" and sparked many debates among critics and science-fiction fans.
