Before letting Lera go out into independent life, her mother made sure she had everything she needed: an apartment, a car, and a good education. Lera tries her best to live up to her mother’s high standards, but it doesn’t really work out. The car had to be sold, the job she found is nothing like what she dreamed of—what’s more, Lera is having an affair with her direct supervisor. That, of course, is something her mother would never approve of. So she has to keep her mother in the dark—fortunately, her mother decided to spend her old age in a little house by the sea. But Lera is lucky with her neighbors. They’re always ready to listen, feel sorry for her, give advice—teach her how to mend a broken heart with vodka, ward off the evil eye with an egg in a bag, and recover from overindulgence with cabbage brine.
