Gerald Durrell’s name is known all over the world. Writer, naturalist, traveler, creator of a unique zoo on the island of Jersey—based on which the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust was established. Durrell wrote more than thirty books, and almost all of them have been translated into many languages; he directed several dozen films as well. With engaging storytelling, warmth, and sparkling humor, Durrell describes the behavior of birds and beasts living in the jungles, tells the tricks of hunting them and the specifics of keeping little captives in captivity—making you worry about their fate and, together with the author, marvel at the richness and diversity of the natural world.
