Peer Gynt

Per Gynt, a Norwegian peasant, a braggart and a dreamer, is obsessed with the desire to rise above the world and become “himself.”

Leaving his home village, his fiancée, and his dying mother behind, he plunges into a whirlwind of adventures: he finds himself in the realm of trolls, learns the false meaning of greatness and bitter downfalls, and roams the world in pursuit of wealth and fame.

This is a philosophical parable about a man who spent his whole life running from his own calling—and about true love, waiting for his return.
