Jai lives in a basti—in the Indian slums of an unnamed city—with his parents and sister. Their life is wrapped in endless smog, poverty, and hardships, but Jai doesn’t give up hope and, like any boy, always manages to find adventures. When children begin to mysteriously disappear from the basti, Jai and his friends decide to conduct their own investigation—because the police do nothing, and he’s watched so many detective movies that no one will do it better than him. Jai, Pari, and Faiz question witnesses, run around the bazaar, and make guesses. But as the smog thickens and winter tightens its grip, the list of missing grows and the atmosphere changes. Could it be that Jai himself will end up in a trap—and that the jinn will take him forever?
