Description
Set in Sweden in 1967. A murder occurs at a summer boarding house—one of the richest women in the country, Maria Jansson. The task of investigating the crime is assigned to a young detective, Magnus Thorg. He carefully studies every aspect of the case and gradually learns facts from the victim’s past. A forensic doctor, Björn Nylérud, helps the young officer. In addition, he keeps a diary of the progress of the investigation…

“Boarding House on Strandvägen” is a novel constructed extraordinarily intriguingly. These are the diaries of a certain forensic doctor, Björn Nylérud. Maria Jansson has been murdered. The investigation is underway, and the author of the notes takes part in it. The plot unfolds gradually. Each page of the diary becomes more dynamic. And finally, an absolutely unexpected exposure.

Jerzy Edigey’s novel is not just a detective story about the murder of a millionaire woman in a fashionable boarding house. It’s a vivid political work, whose main theme is the fight against fascism. Thirty years ago, the war ended. But it did not leave people’s memories. That’s why it is not surprising that this theme lives on to this day in Polish literature. Writers in the Poland of the people return to it again and again so that people remember the horrors of fascism, remember—and do not allow a new world slaughter to be ignited.” (Edward Hruczkі, 1975).
