Description
A traveler, struck by a severe illness, stops at a deserted castle to spend the night. To pass the time, he studies paintings and reads the descriptions in a booklet he finds on the pillow.
Moving the candelabrum, he unexpectedly sees—inside a niche of the room, hidden up to then by shadows—an astonishing painting: a portrait of a young girl. Something unknown and strange draws his gaze to the portrait—and something equally frightening pushes him away.
