The MediaBook studio presents a cult epic audiobook by the famous French writer, master of the historical novel, Knight of the Legion of Honour—Victor Hugo—“Les Misérables,” which has been adapted for film many times and translated into most languages in the world. Victor Hugo himself is one of the most published authors in France of fiction—his books have sold over 100,000,000 copies. Parts of the novel “Cosette” and “Gavroche” are included in the recommended supplementary reading lists for grades 5, 6, 7, and 10. The audiobook is narrated by a popular theatre performer and well-known actor Vladimir Golitsyn.
“Les Misérables” is rightfully considered the author’s main work and one of his best. Hugo held revolutionary and anti-monarchic views, so in his novel he exposes such distortions in society as the concentration of wealth in the hands of a small circle of rich people and the miserable existence of the majority of humankind. The book is steeped in images of deprivation and suffering, the inevitability of fate, and the need to fight for a dignified life. A striking example and the central hero is the former convict Jean Valjean, who as the novel develops comes to embody nobility and self-sacrifice, while his opposite—Inspector Javert—embodies the cruel and relentless power of the state.
Vladimir Golitsyn has more than 19 roles in films and TV series, including “Tenet,” “The Ivanovs: Ivanov-Ivanov,” “The Shuttlewomen,” “Hotel Eleon,” “Viking,” “The Courier,” “UGRO. Simple Guys,” “Moscow. Three Stations,” “In the Game,” “A Vanpost,” and others. We’re listening, liking, and actively commenting! ) © & ℗ LLC “MediaBook”, 2021
