From her quiet refuge, where she lived for 18 years, Teya is taken to the Academy of the Elements. The laws of the Fire Empire are incomprehensible to her. To avoid repeating the fate of her mother—locked away in the refuge—she will have to find answers to many questions: who her father is, why an ordinary domestic cat behaves so strangely; how to extract fire from a lizard; who and why opened a hunt for her; and how to resist a persistent water mage, even though she’s drawn to him so strongly.
And most importantly: why is she so interesting to the dying emperor and the dragon linked to him?
