The Islanders

Tamara Mikheeva is a popular children’s writer and winner of various literary awards. We present her novella “Islanders” in audio format. The story is told from the perspective of two heroes—Lisa and Ruslan. They spend their summer in a village and feel terribly lonely—almost like islands lost in the ocean. Of course, Ruslan has a grandmother and an entire library of books, and Lisa is surrounded by many relatives, yet it’s still extremely, extremely boring. They spend their summer on ordinary vacation activities and don’t even know about each other’s existence. But one day they meet, and the plot twists start moving fast and becoming unexpected. Listening to this story as told by the characters, every young listener will surely recognize themselves—in their thoughts and feelings, because all teenagers are demanding toward the world and crave bright, full, vibrant lives.
