The police and the FBI are at a standstill. So then, a private detective agency hired by the insurance company—specializing in tracking stolen works of art—begins its own hunt for the thieves.

The trail of the missing manuscripts leads to a resort island off the coast of Florida, where the famous antiques dealer and bibliophile Bruce Cable lives, along with a group of his writer friends. That’s where the detectives send their “mole”—a budding writer, Mercer Mann.

But will she be able to identify the mysterious criminal—someone she’s never had to investigate before?
