Paolo Bacigalupi is an American science-fiction writer publishing since 1999. The genres he works in are predominantly science fiction with a post-apocalyptic bent and fantasy. He was born in the town of Paonia in the western part of Colorado, studied Chinese at Ohio State University, and then spent several years in Asia. His works carry the imprint of the cultures of the countries he visited—just as vivid as the noir imprint that fills modern U.S. life.
In the novel “The Weapon,” a half-human, half-beast created for war has shown abilities that exceed what its creators expected. Leaving his own people behind, he led a group of human beings. Yet some know his secret: he discovered a way to resist genetically programmed impulses of submission and loyalty to his masters. The time has come, and the Weapon of War will rise up against those who once enslaved it.
