Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov (1905–1984) — one of the most significant writers of Russian Soviet literature, a Nobel Prize winner.
This volume includes chapters from the novel «They Fought for Their Homeland». As a war correspondent during the Great Patriotic War, Sholokhov collected material from the direct participants of the events and relied on his own impressions.
That allowed him to raise the most complex questions on the pages of his works—about the inevitability of hatred toward a bestial enemy, but also about preserving humanity overall; about the manifestation of strength of spirit and heroism among ordinary people who had to endure terrible trials, deprivation, and losses.
