Description
The novel “Around the President” was published in 2009 in a special supplement to the magazine “Russky Pioner” under the pen name Natan Dubovitsky. There is an opinion that the novel was written, most likely, by Vladislav Surkov, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration. It mentions total corruption in parliament, in the power structures, and in the media. The main character—book publisher Yegor Samokhvalov—engages in, among other things, political PR, and arranges with an opposition journalist to produce commissioned articles. She tries to criticize the authorities, but the hero answers her: “You don’t hate the government—you hate life.” In his view, “injustice, violence, and stubbornness” are “qualities of life in general, not just of power.”
