Spring 1942. British officer Maximilian Chadwick is sent to Malta—the United Kingdom’s naval base that the fascists bomb relentlessly. His mission is to positively influence the moral climate among the island’s people, who are enduring colossal hardships. To do that, he must carefully dose the information so as not to stir public opinion. And when Chadwick learns about the brutal murder of several Maltese women, in which an English serviceman with manic tendencies is involved, he—without publicizing details in order to avoid a scandal—takes it upon himself to expose the criminal personally.
While immersed in the investigation, Chadwick realizes too late that he is being used in a cruel, deadly game.
