The Eyes of the Naiad

Long ago, a priest of the sea god stole two sacred stones from a temple. They were set into the eye sockets of a statue of a nymph—one of Poseidon’s daughters. Offended, the god cursed the thief—along with the stolen stones—and decreed that whoever would possess them would soon die a terrible death. The curse text was sealed forever inside the stones, and no one could read it, because nobody knew the language it was written in.

To a housewife in St. Petersburg, Nadezhda Lebedeva, this story would seem far-fetched and fit only for a dime novel—if only a broken earring with one of the sacred stones hadn’t ended up in her hands. From that moment on, troubles around Nadezhda began to follow one after another. What is it—intervention by unknown forces, or a banal hunt for treasures? Nadezhda is determined to unravel the next riddle fate has tossed at her.
