Stepan Grigorievich Pisakhov is an amazing artist, an original storyteller and writer, traveler, researcher, publicist, teacher, and ethnographer. He was born and lived his entire life in Arkhangelsk; from long journeys he always strived to return home—to the Russian North. He traveled through the countries of the Near East, studied in Rome and Paris, “rode through the Arctic” in every direction—like no one else he knew and felt his native region, its culture and everyday life, its customs and rites, its fairy tales and legends. The life and work of S. G. Pisakhov are inseparable from the history and culture of the Arkhangelsk region. And today, Pisakhov’s multifaceted legacy—amazing fairy tales, essays, paintings—brings many joyful discoveries both to children and adults.
