A tiny village called Glukhary lost in the Ukrainian Polissya. Early autumn of 1944—now deep in the rear of the Red Army. Ivan Kapelyukh, a front-line reconnaissance scout returning after a severe wound and dreaming of getting well soon and returning to the front, receives a summons from the military commissariat. But instead of being sent to the active army, he is assigned to a fighter battalion and given the task of defending his own village from a band of former Bandera policemen roaming the area in place of the dead “hawk.” He will have to find out why they circle the village and protect his fellow villagers.
