In early 20th-century Rostov-on-Don, the “Society of Bats” is in operation—newspapers describe it as a union of energetic young people who assist the small police force by going on night patrols. However, almost no one knows that it was founded by the vampire Ratz: he draws similar beings to himself in order to hunt the townspeople and, step by step, take control.
Agatha joins the lodge—cold, driven careerist from the lower ranks—and her protégé Osip, a hustler, cardsharp, and thief who, despite everything, can still think and feel like a human being.
