Ivan Aleksandrovich Goncharov is one of the brightest and most significant representatives of 19th-century Russian literature.
Goncharov’s literary legacy is not very extensive. Over 45 years of creative work he published three novels, a book of travel essays “The Frigate ‘Pallada’,” several moralistic stories, critical articles, and memoirs.
Goncharov’s novel “Oblomov” is a classic of Russian realism and the last major work created by the great master.
It reflects essential aspects of life in Russian society of the pivotal mid-19th century period.
